Four continents, over forty countries, and hundreds of musicians. The series follows the two German musicians Hannes and Benni aka the Sailing Conductors on a two-year journey from Sydney to Berlin. The journey with the 30-year-old boat “Marianne” is reckless. Without money and any sailing experience, they venture the high seas in a small boat to record music with musicians from all over the world.

What’s extraordinary about the project is that the musicians play together without ever having met each other. Through headphones, each of them hears the song of a previous musician and then gives it a new touch with their own instrument or voice. During the journey, the Sailing Conductors will encounter countless musicians. With the help of their mobile recording studio, which is installed on the boat, they want to produce an album that will define the new genre of "Expedition Music". Every piece will feature musicians from different countries who will broaden the composition with their own interpretations.

The series describes the adventurous journey of the two, in the style of a documentary road movie, from the Solomon Islands back to Germany. On their way they travel to Papua New Guinea, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Kashmir, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Brazil, French Guiana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cuba, USA, Canada, the Azores, Portugal, Spain, France, Holland, Ireland and England.

We experience the daily life of these circumnavigators - the constant battle with currents, storm and calm water. We look at stunning beaches and visit exotic cities. Benni and Hannes explore the inland by car, bus or train and go on adventures and extraordinary music sessions in unusual places.
